The Model - Framed Stretched Canvas Print

This black, white, and gray semi-abstract framed canvas print titled "The Model" was created by Antionette Simmons Hodges in 1965 during her college years. It depicts a stylized, elongated female nude figure seated in a chair, rendered through thick, gestural brushstrokes. Hodges chose to paint the model using shades of black and gray rather than color, as she wanted to capture the pale skin tone of the live model posing for her art class - one of the first opportunities she had to paint from a live model.
The angular, geometric forms outlining the figure's shape and the chair give the composition a bold, modern expressionistic style that conveys energy and movement. This early work showcases Hodges' semi-abstract approach to interpreting the human figure through simplified forms and dynamic brushwork during her formative years as an artist. "The Model" represents a significant first experience for Hodges in painting from a live nude model.
Perfect for adding uplifting, joyful energy and a stylish statement to any contemporary living space or gallery wall.
