Collection: Reflections: Art That Echoes a Southern Legacy | Black Art

This collection features original paintings by Antionette Simmons Hodges, created in the 1990s -2024. With rich storytelling, expressive figures, and theatrical settings, these works explore themes of redemption, temptation, grace, and judgment. While not created with any film in mind, the pieces later evoked parallels to the mood and imagery of the film Sinners — prompting us to reflect on how spiritual and moral conflict echoes across time, culture, and canvas.

Each piece in The Sinners Series stands on its own as a meditation on the human condition — layered, imperfect, and resilient. Together, they form a deeply personal visual archive of Black life, faith, and complexity.

Note: These artworks are original, created decades before the film “Sinners,” and are not affiliated with or endorsed by the filmmakers. The thematic link is purely interpretive.
