"Mama's Little Baby" by Antionette Simmons Hodges is a heartfelt celebration of Black motherhood, brought to life through continuous line art. This captivating piece captures the tender bond between mother and child, forming a semi-abstract representation of love, care, and protection. Inspired by the artist’s journey and the teachings of Varnett Honeywood, this artwork beautifully reflects the essence of Black motherhood.
The flowing line design incorporates an apron motif, a nod to a cherished print hanging in the artist’s kitchen studio. During the pandemic, Hodges explored and evolved her continuous line technique, using materials like acrylics, water-based oils, fabrics, and copper to create unique compositions. "Mama's Little Baby" is part of her "Continuous Line Painting" series, which celebrates life, love, and creativity, making it a powerful tribute to Black motherhood.
This giclée fine art print is available in both framed and unframed options, crafted on archival-quality paper to ensure its vibrancy and beauty endure for generations. Product Details & Legal Information
Canvas & Materials
Our framed stretched canvas prints combine fine art quality with a refined, gallery-style presentation. Each piece is printed on thick, archival-grade poly-cotton canvas that is pH-neutral and acid-free, preserving the artwork’s vibrancy and preventing yellowing over time. Using giclée printing technology, the colors are rich, true-to-life, and protected with a durable, semi-gloss coating to resist scratches, smudges, and fingerprints.
The canvas is expertly stretched over solid, warp-resistant wood stretcher bars and framed in a sleek, professional-grade frame. A black backboard and wire hanger are installed on the reverse, making the piece ready to hang immediately upon arrival.
Framing
Our framed canvas prints are presented in a floating frame style, which positions the stretched canvas slightly recessed within the frame, leaving a subtle gap around the edges. This creates a clean, modern look while allowing the full artwork to remain visible—nothing is cropped or covered.
Frame Options:
Choose from four elegant finishes: black, white, silver, or gold.
Frame Dimensions:
- Front width: 0.375"
- Depth 1.125"
Each framed canvas arrives fully assembled, ready to hang with a sturdy wire hanger and a finished black backing.
Care Instructions
To preserve the longevity and beauty of your framed canvas print, hang it indoors and avoid direct sunlight, which can cause fading over time. Exposure to smoke or other airborne pollutants may also affect the appearance of the artwork.
Keep the print in a space with stable humidity levels. High humidity can promote mold growth, while very low humidity may temporarily loosen the canvas stretch. This will resolve once the environment returns to normal humidity.
The materials used are archival-grade and built to last over 100 years. The canvas is protected with a durable coating that resists scratches, smudges, and fingerprints. For routine maintenance, gently dust the surface with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid using cleaning products or excess moisture.
If the canvas ever becomes slightly damaged, minor touch-ups can be done with waterproof felt-tip markers or matching paint.
Shipping Info
Framed stretched canvas prints are carefully packaged using a protective spidering method. This technique secures the artwork inside the box with reinforced corner protectors and tensioned wrap to keep it suspended and immobilized — minimizing any risk of damage in transit. Each piece is boxed securely to protect the canvas, frame, and hardware.
