Art Is Power Vol. I — Dahomey Warrior Artist Edition Boxy Tee

Original artwork by Antionette Simmons Hodges. Designed for collectors, art lovers, and those who believe art belongs beyond the gallery wall.

About the Artwork
The Agojie were the elite all-female military regiment of the Kingdom of Dahomey, in what is now the Republic of Benin. Trained from childhood to be the king's fiercest warriors, they were feared across West Africa — disciplined, lethal, and sovereign. They were not a footnote. They were the army. Their legacy was buried by colonial erasure and has been reclaimed, piece by piece, by those who refused to let it disappear.

Antionette Simmons Hodges painted this warrior with heraldic reverence — a portrait framed in gold art deco, regal and commanding, the way you frame something whose importance cannot be overstated. This is for everyone who carries that energy. That lineage. That refusal to be diminished.

Printed in rich matte DTG ink on heavyweight 6 oz Airlume combed ring-spun cotton. The print feels embedded, not applied. The garment feels premium because it is.

Available in: Black · Toast · Natural

About This Design

Dahomey Warrior Tee Long before the world learned the word Agojie, the warrior women of the Kingdom of Dahomey were feared across West Africa. Elite fighters, trained from childhood, sworn to protect the king — they were called Mino, which means Our Mothers in Fon. Antionette Simmons Hodges framed this portrait in gold art deco architecture, giving the subject the grandeur she is owed. Fierce, sovereign, and radiantly powerful. This design is for Black women who already know they descend from warriors — and for everyone else who needs to be reminded.
